MULTIPLE PACKS
Dispensing multiple packs or multiple repeats of prescription medication
- As pharmacists we must always comply explicitly with your doctors prescribed directions this includes the quantity of the prescription goods to be supplied. Therefore the only time we can supply an increased quantity of a prescribed medicine is if the doctor prescribes that quantity for you.
AUTHORITY PRESCRIPTION
- Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS.
Authority to prescribe an Authority medicine is granted for specific indications and/or for certain patient circumstances. Authority may be obtained by telephone to Medicare Australia (known as "phone approval") or in writing from an authorised delegate of the Minister for Health.
Prescriptions must be written on an Authority Prescription Form, and the approval number must be noted on the prescription. Pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has been approved by Medicare Australia (indicated by the presence of the approval number).
Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication.
But still pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has the necessary Authority code.

Blackmores I-Folic is a convenient one a day dose of essential nutrients for healthy foetal development. An easy to swallow tablet containing iodine and folic acid for women during pre-conception and pregnancy.

• Provides a daily dose of 500 microgram of folic acid that may reduce the risk of birth defects of the brain &/or spinal cord such as spina bifida if taken daily for 1 month prior to conception and during pregnancy.
Ingredients
Active Ingredients: Potassium iodide (iodine 150 microgram)

Iodine is an essential trace element and is an integral part of the thyroid hormone, thyroxine, required for normal growth and metabolism. An adequate intake of iodine is particularly important for pregnant and breastfeeding women when infants are entirely dependent on their mother's intake of iodine for normal growth and brain development. Foods containing iodine include seawater fish, shellfish, seaweeds and iodised salt.
Folic acid
500 microgram
A water-soluble B group vitamin, folate is involved in the synthesis of DNA and RNA and the activation of vitamin B12 into its active form. Folic acid is found in fresh green leafy vegetables, broccoli, mushrooms, legumes, nuts and fortified cereals.
Directions
Adults - Take 1 tablet a day with a meal, or as professionally prescribed.

Iodine as well as Folate
Iodine is also essential for pregnancy and pre-pregnancy. Helps to absorb Folate and other vitamins and minerals. Convenient small tablets.

I always take these before pregnancy, during pregnancy and while breastfeeding after baby is born. 2 very healthy babies so far which I'm thankful for. These tablets always keep the folic levels in my body to the optimum level. I like the added Iodine which I believe helps brain development in the baby, and helps maintain balance in my body (especially for thyroid function).

Great for pregnancy
Just bought these again. Highly recommended by my GP during pregnancy and now whilst breastfeeding (the iodine). Small tablets and so affordable. Great alternative to the more common and expensive brands of vitamins.
