MULTIPLE PACKS
Dispensing multiple packs or multiple repeats of prescription medication
- As pharmacists we must always comply explicitly with your doctors prescribed directions this includes the quantity of the prescription goods to be supplied. Therefore the only time we can supply an increased quantity of a prescribed medicine is if the doctor prescribes that quantity for you.
AUTHORITY PRESCRIPTION
- Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS.
Authority to prescribe an Authority medicine is granted for specific indications and/or for certain patient circumstances. Authority may be obtained by telephone to Medicare Australia (known as "phone approval") or in writing from an authorised delegate of the Minister for Health.
Prescriptions must be written on an Authority Prescription Form, and the approval number must be noted on the prescription. Pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has been approved by Medicare Australia (indicated by the presence of the approval number).
Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication.
But still pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has the necessary Authority code.

Novalac Reflux is a premium infant formula that has been specially formulated for babies with reflux symptoms to help reduce the severity and frequency of regurgitation episodes. It is a thickened formula designed to thicken in the stomach, and not in the bottle.

How To Prepare Novalac Reflux
Wash the feeding bottle, cap, teat and any utensils to be used and sterilise them in boiling water.
Boil clean drinking water for 5 minutes and allow to cool to 40°C. Pour the required amount of water (see Feeding Guide) into the bottle.
Measure the correct quantity of formula (see Feeding Guide) into the bottle using the scoop provided. Always use one level scoopful (4.3g) per 30mL of water.
Secure the lid on the bottle and shake for at least 30 seconds until the powder is completely dissolved. Let cool to lukewarm temperature (37°C) without re-shaking. Test the temperature on your wrist before feeding.

Novalac Reflux is a thickened formula designed to thicken in the stomach, not in the bottle to help reduce the severity and frequency of regurgitation episodes. It contains essential daily nutrients and minerals to nourish your baby.
Suitable for babies from birth to 12 months of age. Novalac Reflux is suitable for ongoing everyday use after your baby's reflux symptoms have resolved. Babies aged over 6 months should be offered solid food in addition to infant formula.

Skimmed milk, lactose, vegetable oils (palm, soy), corn starch, emulsifier (soy lecithin), trisodium citrate, tricalcium phosphate, vitamins (A, B1, B12, B2, B6, C, D3, E, K1, biotin, folic acid, niacin, pantothenic acid), L-cystine, magnesium chloride, taurine, choline bitartrate, ferrous sulphate, zinc sulphate, antioxidants (extract rich in tocopherols), inositol, L-carnitine, cupric sulphate, sodium selenite, potassium iodide, manganese sulphate. Contains soy, milk.
Directions

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Contents may settle. Store in a cool, dry place and protect from light. Use within 3 weeks of opening. Do not use after the 'Use by' date, which is on the base of the can.

Novalac Reflux
The only product that has been gentle on our babies tummy. We tried other formulas and our baby screamed in agony. Even the Novalac ‘sleep’ did not work.
Our first child had bad reflux, this formula along with burping and keeping his escalated (cot lifted slightly on one side), kept him well and healthy.
We gave our second child this formula too, even though his reflux was very mild (if any). The thickness of this formula helps keep them full. I can’t compliment enough. This was a life saver. We tried everything.

I switched to novalac reflux when my baby was 6 weeks old due to reflux and ever since then no more spews and she loves it she's now 4 months and doing really good on the formula and sleeps all night
