MULTIPLE PACKS
Dispensing multiple packs or multiple repeats of prescription medication
- As pharmacists we must always comply explicitly with your doctors prescribed directions this includes the quantity of the prescription goods to be supplied. Therefore the only time we can supply an increased quantity of a prescribed medicine is if the doctor prescribes that quantity for you.
AUTHORITY PRESCRIPTION
- Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS.
Authority to prescribe an Authority medicine is granted for specific indications and/or for certain patient circumstances. Authority may be obtained by telephone to Medicare Australia (known as "phone approval") or in writing from an authorised delegate of the Minister for Health.
Prescriptions must be written on an Authority Prescription Form, and the approval number must be noted on the prescription. Pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has been approved by Medicare Australia (indicated by the presence of the approval number).
Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication.
But still pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has the necessary Authority code.

What is Dry Eye?
Dry Eye is a condition that occurs when your eyes either produce too few tears or the quality of your tears are poor. This can cause dryness, discomfort and may interfere with vision.
Symptoms of Dry Eye include: burning or stinging, gritty or foreign body sensation, and watery or blurry.
How to use OPTIVE? Eye Drops
Step 1
Wash hands with soap and water; dry them with a clean towel. Tilt your head back with both eyes open and look at a point on the ceiling.
With your index finger, gently pull your lower eyelid to form a small pocket inside the eyelid.
Step 2
With the other hand, gently squeeze
1 drop into the pocket.
Do not allow the tip to come into contact with your eye.
Step 3
Slowly close both eyes, but do not blink or squeeze your eyes, and gently press the inner corners of your eyes (by your nose) with your fingers for about
2 minutes.
This will help the eye drops remain in your eye for a longer period.
Step 4
Gently blot extra drops from face with a damp cloth.
Repeat steps 1-4 for the other eye.
Replace the cap immediately after use.

General Information
Optive Lubricant Eye Drops - advanced dual action formula that lubricates and hydrates dry eyes.
Many things can make your eyes feel dry, gritty, or uncomfortable: air conditioning, heating, computer use, reading, some medication, wind or a reduction of tears your body produces - tears that help lubricate and nourish your eyes. OPTIVE® Lubricant Eye Drops advances dry eye relief by providing a dual-action formula that moisturises the surface of your eye while also hydrating the areas where dry-eye starts, giving your eyes long-lasting moisturising protection.
Indications:
For the temporary relief of burning, irritation, and discomfort due to dryness of the eye or exposure to wind or sun. May be used as a protectant against further irritation.
Carmellose Sodium 5mg/mL.
Glycerin 9mg/mL.
Moisturising dry eye solution.
STERILE A
Size: 15mL
Warnings
For external use only.
To avoid contamination, do not touch tip of container to any surface. Replace cap after use.
If you experience eye pain, vision change, continued redness, eye irritation, or if the condition worsens or persists for more than 72 hours, discontinue use and consult a doctor.
Keep out of reach of children.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Use only if imprinted seal around cap is intact. Discard 3 months after opening.
If solution changes colour or becomes cloudy, do not use.
Ingredients
Each mL contains: 5 mg Carmellose Sodium, 9 mg Glycerin, 0.1 mg PURITE® (Preservative).
Directions
Instil 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye(s) as needed.

Great eyedrops for dry eyes
My optometrist recommended these eye drops as they contain glycerin. I use them morning and night, and also when my eyes feel scratchy, sometimes after gardening. I always have a good supply on hand.

The 15mL bottle version is good value for money for use at home. For travelling I prefer the more expensive individual 0.4mL package which doesn’t spill.

Very good product. Felt the difference straightaway. It has the right balance of liquid and gel, soothes the eyes with no overflow which can irritate the corners of the eyes. Keeps working all day.
