Dispensing multiple packs or multiple repeats of prescription medication
- As pharmacists we must always comply explicitly with your doctors prescribed directions this includes the quantity of the prescription goods to be supplied. Therefore the only time we can supply an increased quantity of a prescribed medicine is if the doctor prescribes that quantity for you.
AUTHORITY PRESCRIPTION
- Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS.
Authority to prescribe an Authority medicine is granted for specific indications and/or for certain patient circumstances. Authority may be obtained by telephone to Medicare Australia (known as "phone approval") or in writing from an authorised delegate of the Minister for Health.
Prescriptions must be written on an Authority Prescription Form, and the approval number must be noted on the prescription. Pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has been approved by Medicare Australia (indicated by the presence of the approval number).
Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication.
But still pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has the necessary Authority code.

Vermox is a range of simple-to-use worming treatments for the whole family. Just one dose - once, with no weighing or bodyweight calculations needed. Available in tablet and liquid formats, in a tasty range of flavours.
Vermox is simple to administer: just one tablet or spoonful - once! No bodyweight calculations needed.
Vermox contains an ingredient called mebendazole which kills threadworms in one dose by preventing them from absorbing glucose, which they need to survive.

Vermox is suitable for the whole family, ages 2 and over
Worms are highly contagious and they are usually passed from the child to the rest of the family. If there are signs, treat with Vermox. The most common signs that your child may have worms include:
• Itching around the bottom, especially at night • Disturbed sleep, which may lead to bedwetting • Reduced appetite • Restlessness and irritability • Grinding teeth • However sometimes, there may be no symptoms at all.

Vermox Choc Chew Tablets is an effective treatment for adults and children over 2 years with intestinal worm infections caused by threadworm. Only one dose - once. Vermox can also be used for whipworm, roundworm, or hookworm.
Vermox offers a range of worming solutions to suit your family’s needs.
Only one dose - once. Vermox contains an ingredient called mebendazole which kills threadworms in a single dose by preventing the worm from absorbing glucose, which they need to survive. No body weight measurements or dosage calculations needed.
Before treating for threadworm, evidence of infestation should be present. If a household member has threadworms, then each family member should be treated.
Signs and symptoms of threadworm infestation include:
- The presence of tiny white threads around the anal region.
- Itching around the anus and vagina.
- Restless sleep, grinding of teeth and irritability.
