MULTIPLE PACKS
Dispensing multiple packs or multiple repeats of prescription medication
- As pharmacists we must always comply explicitly with your doctors prescribed directions this includes the quantity of the prescription goods to be supplied. Therefore the only time we can supply an increased quantity of a prescribed medicine is if the doctor prescribes that quantity for you.
AUTHORITY PRESCRIPTION
- Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS.
Authority to prescribe an Authority medicine is granted for specific indications and/or for certain patient circumstances. Authority may be obtained by telephone to Medicare Australia (known as "phone approval") or in writing from an authorised delegate of the Minister for Health.
Prescriptions must be written on an Authority Prescription Form, and the approval number must be noted on the prescription. Pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has been approved by Medicare Australia (indicated by the presence of the approval number).
Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication.
But still pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has the necessary Authority code.

Nicorette nicotine inhaler is a quit smoking aid. Nicorette inhalator helps you quit smoking by relieving nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms. This pack includes the nicotine replacement inhaler and 20 nicotine inhaler cartridges.

- When you have cravings inhale through mouthpiece as required.
- Continue for up to 40 minutes.
- Replace cartridge.
- Adults 18 years and over who smoke 10 or more cigarettes per day:
How many inhalators do I use?
1. Stopping Immediately
During weeks 1-12:
1 cartridge when you have an urge to smoke or every 2-4 hours. For best results use 3-6 cartridges/day.
After 12 weeks:
Gradually reduce to 1-2 cartridges a day and then stop use. Use beyond 12 months is not recommended.
2. Cutting down
Gradually increase inhalator use (maximum 6 cartridges/day) and reduce smoking with the aim if stopping by 6 months. If you have not cut down at 6 weeks or stopped at 9 months. see your doctor/pharmacist.
3. Combination Therapy
If you have relapsed with single nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) or if you have cravings with single-use NRT, you can use Nicorette 15mg inhalator, in addition to NICORETTE Patch for better craving relief. Use every day. After 12 weeks reduce the use of patch or inhalator (see pack insert).

The ONLY thing that works for me
I have not smoked for almost one year, after 40+ years of 30-40 per day.
I do not believe I am addicted to the nicotine they supply! I believe I'm actually addicted to the ability to do something, instantaneously, with my hands and mouth whenever I feel any momentary elevated level of stress. Also, I am now addicted to the familiarity of their taste.
Note - they will taste horrible at first, but if you persevere beyond a few days you will begin to enjoy the taste.

You can do it
I am a 55 years long term smoker, minimum 20 cigarettes a day.
I tried quit smoking many times and failed variety of methods, finally found the best one.
It gives you the feeling of smoking and help bit of relief craving of nicotine.
I am not a cigarette smoker anymore and became a inhaler, and I hope someday totally quit everything relate to smoking.

Best method ever
I had tried both the gum and patches several times previously to no avail. I gave the inhaler a go in 2002, used it for a moth and haven't touched a cigarette since.
The best thing about the inhaler is you are still doing the hand to mouth action and that's the thing I found hardest to deal with using other methods of quitting.

Fantastic price
I am a regular buyer of Nicorette inhalators and Chemist Warehouse always has the best price. I couldn't believe the discount price it had last week - I bought three boxes! By the way - I had tried everything for quitting smoking and this the only method that has worked for me. I wish there were other brands so more competition but so far only nicorette inhalators seem to be available in Australia.
