MULTIPLE PACKS
Dispensing multiple packs or multiple repeats of prescription medication
- As pharmacists we must always comply explicitly with your doctors prescribed directions this includes the quantity of the prescription goods to be supplied. Therefore the only time we can supply an increased quantity of a prescribed medicine is if the doctor prescribes that quantity for you.
AUTHORITY PRESCRIPTION
- Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS.
Authority to prescribe an Authority medicine is granted for specific indications and/or for certain patient circumstances. Authority may be obtained by telephone to Medicare Australia (known as "phone approval") or in writing from an authorised delegate of the Minister for Health.
Prescriptions must be written on an Authority Prescription Form, and the approval number must be noted on the prescription. Pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has been approved by Medicare Australia (indicated by the presence of the approval number).
Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication.
But still pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has the necessary Authority code.

Henry Blooms Herb-a-lax compounded herbs is a gentle, yet effective natural laxative which also relieve wind.
Warnings
Always read the label. Follow the directions before use. If symptoms persist, talk to your health professional. Do not use if you have abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea. Not to be used when pregnant or breastfeeding. Use in children under 12 years is not recommended. Drink plenty of water. Prolonged use may cause serious bowel problems.
Common Uses
Henry Blooms Herb-a-lax compounded herbs is a gentle, yet effective natural laxative which also relieve wind. Created using a special formulation of senna leaf, buckthorn bark, psyllium seed, dill seed and liquorice root powder. Psyllium provides a great source of fibre and together with liquorice root powder has a gentle soothing action on the bowel. Dill seed has a carminative action on the bowel and helps reduce digestive discomfort.
Ingredients
1.5 g (approx. 5 mL teaspoon) contains: Senna leaf dry 1.31 g eqv. Hydroxyamthracene glycoside as sennoside B 32.63 mg
Frangula bark dry(Buckthorn) 108 mg equiv. glucofrafrangulins (as glucoframgulin A) 7.35 mg
Psyllium husk 30 mg
Anethum graveolens (Dill) fruit 30 mg
Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) root 30 mg
Directions
Adults: Take 1.5 g (approx. 5 mL teaspoon) with water or fruit juice before bedtime.
Children: On medical advice. Start with no more than half the adult dose, 750 mg (approx. half 5 ml teaspoon), increasing to adult dosage if necessary. Use in children under 12 years of age is not recommended. Drink plenty of water.
