Dispensing multiple packs or multiple repeats of prescription medication
- As pharmacists we must always comply explicitly with your doctors prescribed directions this includes the quantity of the prescription goods to be supplied. Therefore the only time we can supply an increased quantity of a prescribed medicine is if the doctor prescribes that quantity for you.
AUTHORITY PRESCRIPTION
- Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS.
Authority to prescribe an Authority medicine is granted for specific indications and/or for certain patient circumstances. Authority may be obtained by telephone to Medicare Australia (known as "phone approval") or in writing from an authorised delegate of the Minister for Health.
Prescriptions must be written on an Authority Prescription Form, and the approval number must be noted on the prescription. Pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has been approved by Medicare Australia (indicated by the presence of the approval number).
Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication.
But still pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has the necessary Authority code.

Novalac Allergy is a premium infant formula which has been specially formulated for babies unable to tolerate formula containing cow's milk protein, or with a confirmed cow's milk protein allergy.

How To Prepare Novalac Allergy?
Wash the feeding bottle, cap,
teat and any utensils to be
used and sterilise them in
boiling water.
Boil clean drinking water for
5 minutes and allow to cool
to 40°C. Pour the required
amount of water (see Feeding
Guide) into the bottle.
Measure the correct quantity
of formula (see Feeding
Guide) into the bottle using
the scoop provided. Always
use one level scoopful (4.3g)
per 30mL of water.
Secure the lid on the bottle
and shake for at least 30
seconds until the powder
is completely dissolved. Let
cool to lukewarm temperature
(37°C) without re-shaking. Test
the temperature on your wrist
before feeding.

Novalac Allergy may help reduce the symptoms associated with cow's milk protein allergy. Novalac Allergy is a low lactose formula that is suitable for lactose intolerant babies*. Novalac Allergy can be used from birth to 12 months. Novalac Allergy is suitable for ongoing everyday use. Babies aged over 6 months should be offered solid food in addition to infant formula.
Novalac Allergy is available without a prescription. It should only be used under medical supervision. Always consult your doctor or health worker if you suspect your baby may have cow's milk protein allergy.

Life saving formula for infant allergies
When we learned that our son had an allergy to cows milk protein at just a couple months old, our paediatrician recommended this formula amongst others. My son immediately rejected other brands because of fishy aftertastes but took to this one instantly and has loved the flavour ever since. Additionally, the supply is always fairly reliable when other formula brands are often out of stock or need a script to access them. The tub is well designed, with a scoop provided. The only thing that takes some practice is getting the right temperature to dissolve the powder as it clumps at ideal drinking temperature, so the manufacturer recommends dissolving in slightly hotter water (but not too hot as it destroys the nutrients) then cooling before giving to baby. We usually do this by sticking the bottle in the freezer for 3min and this works perfectly.

Might not be reflux !
Took awhile but found out our granddaughter is allergic to stuff ! This formula is the best for her and has allowed her to settle down with her feeds .
