MULTIPLE PACKS
Dispensing multiple packs or multiple repeats of prescription medication
- As pharmacists we must always comply explicitly with your doctors prescribed directions this includes the quantity of the prescription goods to be supplied. Therefore the only time we can supply an increased quantity of a prescribed medicine is if the doctor prescribes that quantity for you.
AUTHORITY PRESCRIPTION
- Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS.
Authority to prescribe an Authority medicine is granted for specific indications and/or for certain patient circumstances. Authority may be obtained by telephone to Medicare Australia (known as "phone approval") or in writing from an authorised delegate of the Minister for Health.
Prescriptions must be written on an Authority Prescription Form, and the approval number must be noted on the prescription. Pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has been approved by Medicare Australia (indicated by the presence of the approval number).
Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication.
But still pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has the necessary Authority code.

- Adults 18 years and over who smoke 20 or fewer cigarettes per day:
Use for: 1. Stopping Immediately:
How many pieces of gum do I use? Weeks 1 to 12: 1 piece when you have an urge to smoke or every 1-2 hours. Do not use more than 20 pieces/day. After 12 weeks: Gradually reduce to 1-2 pieces a day and then stop use.
Use for: 2. Cutting down:
How many pieces of gum do I use? Gradually increase gum use (maximum 20 pieces/day) and reduce smoking with the aim of stopping by 6 months. If you have not cut down at 6 weeks or stopped at 9 months, see your doctor/pharmacist.
3. Combination Therapy: If you have relapsed with single nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) or if you have cravings with single use NRT, you can use NICORETTE 2mg Gum, in addition to NICORETTE Patch for better craving relief. Use patch as directed and aim to chew at least 4 pieces (maximum of 12) of NICORETTE Gum 2mg every day (see back of pack). After 12 weeks reduce use of Patch or Gum (see pack insert).
Chew-Park-Chew: 1. Chew gum slowly until taste is strong or you feel a slight tingling sensation. 2. Rest gum between cheek and gums. 3. Chew again when taste has faded. Repeat until there is no more tingling.

The anti smoking aid is better than smoking who ever in vented it is a good
I have smoked for 30 years and stopped a filthy habit . In Australia it was the norm to smoke .In the past I smoked Uptown 3packets a day the trick to not catching cancer I found was to drink alot of water in the time I smoked until stopped I am cancer free .nictorretee is good the oldest formula is better than today's

For me the best way to quit
Third times a charm. 27 years smoking @ 15 a day. Switched to rolling in a bid to cut down. It helped.
On my third go quitting. I usually last about a year. This time I hope for good.
The gum is good as it adds a small distraction along with the nicotine. I find myself reaching for the gum more than rolling a smoke. Adding a small distraction whilst using the gum helps too. I play word searching on my phone. Or just walk around for a few mins.

Good Value and Helps Reduce Cravings
Helps me with the cravings! Personally I prefer fruit flavour over the mint, but both good. Great value in large pack. Health fund will pay benefit if I get a Pharmacist’s receipt.
